Deep Clean vs Regular Clean: What Is the Difference?
By Squares & Corners · Published · 4 min read
A regular clean maintains a home that is already kept up: surfaces, bathrooms, kitchen and floors. A deep clean is a top-to-bottom reset that adds the detail work a regular visit skips, such as baseboards, door frames, window sills, grout, vents and the spots behind furniture that can be moved.
The table shows what each clean covers. The regular clean is the standard clean on our house cleaning service page.

What a regular clean covers
A regular clean covers the kitchen, bathrooms, living areas, bedrooms and entryway: wiping counters and surfaces, cleaning sinks, toilets, tubs and showers, dusting reachable surfaces, and vacuuming and mopping floors. It keeps a home at a baseline, and it can be booked once or as a recurring schedule, weekly, every two weeks or monthly.
What a deep clean typically adds
Kitchen. Degreasing the stovetop and backsplash, cabinet fronts and handles wiped top to bottom, and the inside of the microwave
Bathrooms. Scrubbing tile and grout, removing soap scum from tile, glass and fixtures, and cleaning behind the toilet
Living areas and bedrooms. Baseboards, door frames, window sills and tracks, vents, light fixtures and ceiling fans
Furniture. Cleaning beneath and behind furniture that can be moved
A deep clean takes longer than a regular clean of the same home, because each room gets more detail work. How much longer depends on the size of the home, how much buildup there is, how much furniture needs to be moved and how many cleaners are on the job. Rather than quote a number that fits no one, a cleaner works from your home size, its condition and any notes you send. At Squares & Corners the price is flat by home size, so the length of the visit does not change what you pay.
Signs it is time for a deep clean
You do not need a calendar to decide. These are the signs that a regular clean is no longer catching everything:
Dust lines along baseboards and door frames that a quick wipe does not remove
Grout that has darkened, or soap scum that builds back within days
Grease on cabinet fronts and handles in the kitchen
Grit in window tracks and dust on vents, light fixtures and ceiling fans
A first visit from a cleaner to a home that has not had a detailed clean in a while
If your home is already kept up, a regular clean may be enough as a first visit. If you can see that the detail work has been skipped, start with a deep clean.
When to book which
Book a deep clean when
It is your first clean and you want a reset before a regular schedule starts
The seasons change and you want a spring or end-of-season clean
The home has fallen behind, and baseboards, sills, grout and vents show it
Book a regular clean when
The home is kept up week to week and you want upkeep
You want a schedule, with 20% off weekly, 15% off every two weeks or 10% off monthly
A common route is one deep clean to reset the home, then a recurring standard clean to keep it there. How often depends on the household; see how often to have your home professionally cleaned. A deep clean is a one-time visit, and the recurring discount applies to the standard clean.
What each costs
Flat price per visit in USD, same in Cambridge and Brookline. Prices as of September 2026.
Many homes in Cambridge and Brookline are in older buildings, with radiators, deep window sills and original wood floors. Those are the places where a deep clean's detail work shows most, so mention them in your quote request.
